American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed Dog

Buddy II the Dog needs a home

This is Buddy. We have another Buddy in the rescue right now, so we've dubbed him Buddy II. We are very fortunate to have write ups from both Buddy's previous owner and the young man in his foster home.

Buddy is an absolute love bug. He loves going on adventures and making new friends, both canine and human. He is fantastic in the car, though he does have one quirk – if he is sitting in the passenger seat he will reach his paw across and "hold" your leg the entire car ride. He has done this ever since he was a puppy. In terms of energy level Buddy is the best of both worlds. He loves to go on hikes and is a great running partner, but is just as happy keeping you company during a Netflix binge-watching session.

He is extremely food motivated, though sometimes gets distracted in exciting environments. He has responded very well in the past to clicker training, and knows several commands. These include sit, stay, down, head down (he puts his chin to the ground while laying down – very cute), paw, high five, wait and leave it. Anything he can do to earn praise and treats, Buddy is all for it!

As far as dislikes, Buddy has very few. He is allergic to bees and will swell up in hives if stung. Luckily he is a very smart boy and does his best to avoid them. Aside from bees, Buddy is not extremely fond of stray cats or anyone outside the fenced yard for the most part. On leash outside of the yard he is A-Okay, but within the fence he can be a little territorial.

When it comes to toys Buddy will tell you that he loves ALL toys. But beware, if it has stuffing or a squeaker Buddy will try to demolish and eat it. Also, if left out of his crate when you are not home any and all pillows in the house may spontaneously combust. Tough toys like nylabones last longer.

Overall Buddy is an amazing dog and will make a great companion to any family. He has lived with children before (from the time he was brought home,) and dogs both male and female, both large and small. Though he prefers female dogs his canine brother Elvis was his BFF. If you're looking for a lifelong pal who wants nothing more than to love you and make you happy, look no further!

From the young man he is living with: "Buddy is a great loving dog. He is a very calm and gentle dog. He loves to lay down with people and rest. He also loves to play outside and run around. He is very well trained, he gives paw when you give him a treat. Buddy is also potty trained. He gets along with other dogs very well. Buddy was a very hard dog to give up for adoption but I'm sure he will have a great home."
